TimeCar, an hourly car rental service, has opened a new location downtown, its fourth in Oklahoma City.
Downtown Oklahoma City, already home to the growing bicycle share system Spokies, is getting a car share station like those set up at Oklahoma City University, the University of Oklahoma and Crowne Plaza Hotel in northwest Oklahoma City.
TimeCar, launched on Thursday at NE 2 and Oklahoma in Deep Deuce, allows members to rent a car by the hour at any time of day.
With continued residential development in the east downtown neighborhood, TimeCar President Benny Jacobs saw Deep Deuce as a natural fit for his growing operation.
“It's currently the most densely populated downtown neighborhood and only becoming more popular,” Jacobs said. “You don't have to own a car to live there. Residents can easily bike, walk and now use car sharing.”
The operation will start with a Nissan Juke and Mazda 3 to be stationed in a parking lot across from the 2nd Street Lofts at Oklahoma Avenue and NE 2. Jacobs is in talks with Level developer Richard McKown to establish a more centralized, permanent location later this year.
